Using the 29th Annual Rocky Mountain Storytellers' Conference as a Classroom

Note: For a full schedule of conference sessions, click here or on the Conference Schedule link at the start or end of this Web page.

10 hours - Students will experience seven (7) general sessions, where they will see and hear featured tellers Angela Lloyd and Susan Marie Frontczek, plus the Spinning and Weaving WEBsters (Lev Ropes, Mike Heroy, Brian Turner, and Ed Winograd). A panel, "Telling Stories From a Culture Other Than Your Own," will be led by Kathy Totten. Julie Davis will facilitate the closing session.

8 hours - Participants will have a choice of twenty-one (21) different topics for the Conference's seven (7) concurrent or break-out sessions. At these sessions will be tellers from many cultures and backgrounds, emphasizing the Conference theme, "2004: Spinning Tales...Weaving Stories."

2 hours - The Friday night Storytelling Showcase will include both featured storytellers, Angela Lloyd and Susan Marie Frontczek

There is no required reading for this course, but attendance is mandatory to ensure twenty (20) contact hours. A written critique or a personal reaction (not a summary) to all general sessions and concurrent sessions attended, and a personal implementation plan (one page) on how storytelling will influence each student's job, life, or profession, will be due on or before May 12, 2004. Participants will be graded on the critiques and personal implementation plans. Also required will be the UCD course evaluation sheet and the Conference evaluation.
